[comp.dcom.modems] Trailblazer Plus vs. T2500

gst@wjh12.harvard.edu (Gary S. Trujillo) (11/24/89)

Apologies if this question has been discussed here previously. I'm not
normally a reader of this newsgroup, but it seemed to best place to post
the following inquiry. I'd appreciate a copy of your reply via email, for
the same reason, but I will try to check here for replies (which is a bit
of a bother, since it means having to log into a remote machine, since I
don't get this newsgroup at my site).

I'm thinking of buying a Trailblazer under the current program which offers
folks with domain addresses substantial discounts, through the end of December.
The modems available are the "Trailblazer Plus Standalone" and the "T2500
Standalone."

They say that the difference between the two is:

|/*******************
|* THE TELEBIT T2500
|********************/
|
|In addition to all of the features described above, the new Telebit T2500 adds
|full V.32 compatibility, in both asynchronous and synchronous modes of
|operation. The T2500 allows full connectivity with a wide variety of dial-up
|modems, including V.32, PEP (including T1000, TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer Plus,
|and T2000 modems), V.22 bis, V.22, V.23, V.21, Bell 212A, and 103J modems.
|The T2500 offers more features and modulations than other V.32 modems, and adds
|the proven advantages of PEP for Unix environments.
|
|Other T2500 features include MNP Class 5 data compression in all non-PEP
|modes (including V.32), and an inactivity timer for automatic disconnection
|after a preset idle time. All of the standard PEP features are present,
|including the UUCP protocol support and PEP data compression.

My question is whether the T2500 is worth the extra $225. What existing
modems would the T2500 talk to that the TB+ would not? Are new modems
coming onto the market which support one and not the other?

Thanks much in advance!

	Gary
