[comp.dcom.modems] uucico

I'm currently having a problem in data transfer rates with my uucp
host. I'm using a version of uucico that runs on MS-DOS systems called
UFGATE. What occurs is that when I establish login and start *sending*
data I get transfer rates around 1900 bps, but when I receive news and
mail the transfer rates get bumped down tp around 800 bps. I'm using a 2400
baud Cardinal semi-Hayes compatible (not a full implementation of the
command set) internal modem on a PC-XT.

If anyone has any suggestions as to why this happens I would greatly
appreciate the feedback. Please Email responses to:

I was running UFGATE on another machine. The link from Usenet (Unix machine)
to UFGATE (on the DOS machine) worked fine with transfers of around 220 cps
but the link the other way from Fido to Usenet was very slow due to the
overhead attached with each message and the fact that there was no way to
batch the messages on the UFGATE machine. As long as the number of messages
moving from Fido to Usenet was low - everything worked fine - but don't try
to import any of the Fido Echomail conferences.
