Hi, people, has anybody of you made any experiences with the modular circuit technology combined fax and Data modems (running with 4800 bps for fax and 2400 for data)? IS the software any good? Is it able to understand "Umlauts" (e.g. after loading KEYB GR under DOS)? I'd be delighted to get enlightened ... /Armin

If the Modular Circuit Technology modem you're referring to is the $119 widget in the JDR catalog, I have one and it does send faxes ok. I didn't try the entire PC character set but plaintext English went through just fine. The software clearly is built to used in attended mode. There is no documented possibility of using it from a batch file or from another program, and I've not been able to get direct access to the modem at all. The manual for the modem has a complete listing of all the commands and registers to use when it's a 2400bps V.22bis data modem, but omits all mention of FAX completely. Real frustrating! Remember that this is a send-only widget also. I don't think I'd buy one for personal use, after having played with this one at work. I think I'd rather spend a bit more and get receive capability too. - Brian
