My mistake... I thought the terms referred to the general tone of the music, as in "heavy" rock (loud, raucous, kick-the-doors-down) vs "light" or "soft" rock. In terms of popularity, I can certainly see the Dazzle Ships would get a "heavy" rating. A review: Tears for Fears, EP, "Change" Polygram Canada. Tears for Fears is an English group that plays music with some intricate rhythms, strong melodies, and reasonable lyrics. Ihey have a similar sound to Culture Club, but more up-tempo. This 3 track EP contains an extended version of Change on one side, a short remixed version of the same song on the other, and concludes with "Conflict", a fairly short song about conflict in relationships. The title song is a moody treatment of meeting an old friend to find a change in personality that turns the friend into a stranger. Though the sound has a basic mellowness, it is enlivened with some synthesizer and drum machine parts, used in such a way as not to be boring (no mean feat). The shorter remix is livelier still with some quirkier synthesizer parts. The EP is recommended, though you might want to wait for the LP, soon to be released in Canada (and currently #1 in England). Only complaint, for an EP, there's not a great deal of playing time, and one song is only a remix of one of the others, but it all sounds quite good.
