I'd like to know what experience people have had with software packages that allow MNP protocols to be used with non-MNP modems. I am currently running a Cardinal MB2450 2400 bps internal modem on an AT&T 6300+ (AT clone) PC and am using the supplied "FLASHlink(tm)" software which emulates MNP levels 2, 4, and 5. Besides the fact that FLASHlink software occasionally hangs my computer, I am not impressed with its MNP performance either - when using the modem interactively there are annoying delays (on the order of a couple seconds, with a noise-free line and MNP level 4) between the times that packets of information are transmitted from the remote computer to my screen. So, in particular, have any of you had better experience with "FLASHlink"? Is there some undocumented feature that will allow me to adjust the packet size? Also, in general, has anyone had positive experiences with other MNP emulation software (that I can run on my PC), in the public domain or otherwise? Thanks for the information, Michael Braverman braver@teak.berkeley.edu
