Can anyone suggest a good source of information on the various modem protocols? Either general description or specs of the standards is fine.

These are available from the United Nations BookShop (1-212-963-7680). General Assembly Bldg. Room G.A.32 B New York, NY 10017 I don't think they are updated to V.42, V.42bis yet. I don't know where you would get Bell 300 and 212 specifications, probably from Bell. Here are some magazine articles & books which may be useful.
