Welcome to the world - just as we have bad days from time to time, so also
do those folks from whom we obtain product. No big deal - with about 9
years of computer reselling under my belt, I've found that even good
distributors screw up from time to time. Hell, if we refused to deal with
every distributor that screwed up, we'd be out of business.

I have used, recommended, and installed a fair pile of USR modems, including
VAR's (still my favorite 2400), HST's and VHST 14.4's. In four years, I have
had occasion to contact USR Technical Support several times regarding my
300-baud back-channel HST and (in particular) my 14.4KB VHST. While the
technicians weren't always able to provide instant gratification, I
ALWAYS received prompt, competent, polite and considerate assistance.

My only real complaint with USR came in June of 1989 when the 14.4's were
released with faulty ROM's - it took a long time for USR to solve the
problems which resulted, and I found it frustrating. In spite of that, the
SUPPORT folks continued to bend over backwards to diagnose the problem and
help me develop "work-arounds" until the new ROM's began shipping.

As a USR dealer for 4 years, and a regular user of USR modems since 1983,
I followed this thread wondering if you were talking about the same USR
I dealt with....I won't hesitate to recommend the HST for dos applications -
I believe it provides more bang for the buck than the alternatives, and
the support I receive is terrific.
