I haven't had much experience with 9600 bps modems -- the extent of my knowledge is knowing what most of the lights mean. We use Racal-Vadic 9600VP's here, which don't seem to be compatible with other 9600bps modems. Someone else here needs a new 9600bps modem for his PC to connect with the New York office, where they use 9600bps Hayes modems. I'm also looking at putting our 3B2 on the net at some point down the road, and expect to find that I will need a TBIT for that. In a nutshell, which 9600 bps modems are compatible with which other ones? What are the rules governing compatibility? -- Ed Driscoll The University of Michigan ejd@caen.engin.umich.edu

(which 9600 baud modem?) You want v.32 compatibility if you want to escape vendor dependencies. Note that Merit is not providing 9600 baud dial-in access as well with v.32s. Otherwise you need the same brand at either end (modulo a few exceptions). --Ed Edward Vielmetti, U of Michigan math dept.
