- In a nutshell, which 9600 bps modems are compatible with which - other ones? What are the rules governing compatibility? CCITT V.32 is the only international standard for full-duplex transmission on dial-up telephone lines. The other proprietary schemes (Hayes V-series 9600, USRobotics HST, Microcom MNP6, Racal-Vadic 9600VP, Telebit PEP, etc.) are all incompatible with each other. You either have to have a modem that matches the person you're calling, or both modems have to support V.32, if you're going to communicate at higher than 2400bps. -- Toby Nixon, Principal Engineer, Hayes Microcomputer Products
