[comp.dcom.modems] Supra V.42bis modem

steve@thelake.mn.org (Steve Yelvington) (03/22/90)

The current issue of InfoWorld has an ad for the Supra Modem Plus, a
2400bps modem with MNP-5 and V.42bis data compression, for under $200 (US)
from the On-Line Store, 800-336-2439. I've had good experiences with other
Supra products, but I know nothing about their modems.

The ad says the V.42bis data compression can move bits at up to 9600bps
and claims 8000bps with average line conditions.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried this model and can tell me:
	* about its reliability,
	* how well it works with sites running other MNP modems,
	* how well it gets along with Telebit T2500s,
	* whether I can get a better deal straight from Supra. :-)

If you have a better suggestion in that price range, I'd like to hear it.

My main application is moving uncompressed text files -- Usenet news and
UUCP mail.

Please reply via mail. If there's enough interest I'll summarize.
