Hello! There seems to be an on-going discussion/debate concerning high-speed modems in regards to CCITT and proprietary modulation schemes, as well as defacto standards and pricing. I can't possibly address all the questions and issues without evangelizing or delivering a sales pitch. In short, TELEBIT manufactures the following modems: T2500 PEP (18031 bps/19200 with Lempel-Ziv compression) CCITT V.32 Synchronous/asynchronous (9600) CCITT V.22bis, V.22 (2400,1200) Bell 212A and 103J (1200, 300) MNP Class 4 (error correction) MNP Class 5 (data compression) UUCP, X/Y modem, Kermit, SNA/SDLC Protocol Support T2000 All of the above except CCITT V.32 TrailBlazer All of the above except CCITT V.32, SNA/SDLC Protocol Plus Support T1000 PEP (11680 bps no compression available) CCITT V.22bis, V.22 (2400,1200) Bell 212A and 103J (1200, 300) MNP Class 4 (error correction) UUCP, X/Y modem, Kermit Protocol Support These products are available in various rackmount and PC/PS packagings. The Ventel Pathfinder and Racal-Milgo 1822 modems contain PEP technology. modems@telebit.UUCP (Modem Mail Account) (03/23/90)
Hello! I would like to take this opportunity to announce some MAJOR updates to the TELEBIT Configuration Guides and Technical Documentation. I have enclosed a list of UNIX configuration guides and TELEBIT product guides which may be requested via e-mail and are also available for "anonymous" FTP from the U.S. and international sites listed. The updates bring the configuration guides in line with new TELEBIT products and newer TELEBIT modem firmware releases. In other words, you will not find any reference to "a small hole by the RS-232 connector at the back of the modem which houses the reset button..." and the need for a straightened paper clip. Optimized modem settings for various UNIX systems, as well as a VERY generic UNIX set-up guide for use in the set-up of UNIX systems for dial-in/out (getty/tip/cu), Version2 and HoneyDANBER UUCP, TCP/SLIP, and Point-to-Point Protocol are amongst the guides. Technical documentation on TCP/SLIP has been updated to include new information on the distribution of Van Jacobson's Compress TCP/SLIP (TCP/CSLIP) and informational updates on PPP. Once again, I would like to invite TELEBIT modem users with configuration specific and general questions on TELEBIT modem set-up in UNIX and non-UNIX environments to write us at: UUCP: {uunet, ames, sun, pyramid, decwrl}!telebit!modems INTERNET: modems@telebit.com This will allow us to aid you with the on-line configuration documentation we distribute, as well as providing some basic technical assistance via e-mail. Telephone Technical Support is available at: 1-800-TELEBIT OR 1-408-734-5200 These two support channels will provide the most immediate response for your questions and will prevent any unnecessary cluttering of this newsgroup with TELEBIT-specific questions. Questions regarding the pricing and availability of TELEBIT modem products, as well as distributor/dealer referrals, should be addressed to the 1-800-TELEBIT Sales Support line. We do not carry this type of sales propaganda on-line. I would also like to ask that TELEBIT modem users copy us on any concerns, suggestions, and/or comments regarding our on-line configuration guides and technical documents. Contributions of UNIX and non-UNIX system-specific configurations to the TELEBIT on-line documentation are ALWAYS welcome! THANK YOU. ======================================================================== Telebit Corporation Revision 1.02 01 APRIL 1990 ======================================================================== AVAILABLE CONFIGURATION DOCUMENTATION FOR TELEBIT MODEMS By C.
