I recently saw an add from the Online store stating that the new SupraModem Error-Correcting was selling for < $200. This seems down-right INCREDIBLE for a modem that is SAID to feature v.42bis. According to what Toby Nixon has said in previous messages, v.42bis gives a 4 to 1 compression ration for text messages such a these. My questions are as follows: -Is the SupraModem compatible with the newer AND older V series modems? -Does V.42bis compatibility mean V.42 downward compatibility as well? -Is V.42bis a ping-pong protocol? If so, are they _VERY_ usable in interactive situations for a fast touch-typist ? -Does the SupraModem also work also at MNP 5 ? -Has anyone here actually tried one of these modems? -Could someone tell me how they could possibly perform when used with Farallon's Timbuktu software (remote control software for the Mac similar to Carbon Copy and PC Anywhere on DOS machines, but the Mac is 100% graphics and thus slow to operate over modems...). On another related subject... The ATI 2400/etc modem is said to have MNP 5 and V.42 (LAP-M with MNP). Is this the SAME protocol used in the older Hayes V series 2400's ???? What about 9600 performance under v.42bis ? Does the 4 to 1 compression ratio also apply to the V series 9600 ? What is the fastest link speed supported by the V series modems (including the new Ultra model) ? That's about all for now! -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pascal Gosselin | Internet: pascal@altitude.CAM.ORG | | Gest-Mac Inc.
