We are having some unusual problems with our Telebit TrailBlazer Plus modems. Until last friday, we were running with only one, and had no problems. Now that we have added a second, we are having nothing but problems! First of all, we are running version 2.02 of Interactive's 386/ix on a Texas Microsystems 386 machine. We are also running HoneyDanBer UUCP. On to the problems. With our old modem (Version 4.0 roms), we can connect to uunet (our UUCP link), but they can't call us. When they try, they are getting a login prompt, but no password prompt. After we are done exchanging data with them, we get a 'getty: cannot open "ttyD0". errno: 13' message on the console. In order to call them again, we have to manually go in and kill the getty. Init will then respawn a new getty correctly. Our new modem (Version 5.0 roms), we can neither call uunet nor receive calls from them. It goes through all of the carrier handshaking, but then disconnects after the third PEP tone. The modem does work however, when I tried calling osu-cis. But, it still gives the getty error (with port ttyD8). Both of these modems work fine when they call each other (using cu). Unfortunately, I have no way of testing them together with UUCP. When I try defining ourselves in Systems, it gives me an error about trying to talk to itself. If I just use cu, I don't get the getty error, so I am assuming it is comming from some interaction with UUCP. I would really appreciate any help on this. After three days of digging through the Telebit manuals, I am getting rather sick of the whole thing... :-) -- - Dan Rich | | Dialogic Corporation drich@dialogic.UUCP | - Time is an illusion. | 129 Littleton Rd or | Lunchtime, doubly so. - | Parsippany, NJ 07054 uunet!dialogic!drich | - Douglas Adams | (201)334-8450

We are using a Telebit to communicate between both sites internal to the company, and to external systems (such as uunet). In the past, all of the modems that we communicate with have been set up to use only PEP mode, so we could leave our modem with S50=255 (for security). Now, one of our sites has a need to use their Telebit for 2400 baud connections. Does anyone have a dialer entry that will let me switch our modem to autobaud and then back to PEP mode? In other words, I want to be able to dial out to slower speed modems, and if the remote modem is a Telebit, go to PEP mode. Also, I only want to accept calls from other Telebits in PEP mode. Any suggestions? -- Dan Rich | drich@dialogic.com || ...!uunet!dialogic!drich UNIX Systems Administrator | "Danger, you haven't seen the last of me!"
