[comp.dcom.modems] MNP Information

jb10320@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (Jawaid Bazyar) (10/02/89)

Where can I get a document describing the details of the various
MNP protocols? I'm interested in perhaps writing a software-based Compression
scheme, and if at all possible would like it to be compatible with MNP
devices.
Please mail all replies directly to me as I don't normally read this
newsgroup.

	Any help is much appreciated...

I need to get the documentation on implementation on the lowers levels (1-3)
of MNP.

Thanks.

Stuart, MNP levels through 4 are described in Annex A of CCITT
Recommendation V.42. You can order this from Omnicom (you actually
need to order the entire V series Blue Book, but that's a nice thing
to have around for reference anyway) at 1-800-OMNICOM; the cost is
$71, I think.

Another idea would be to order the MNP documentation directly from
Microcom in Norwood, MA (617-551-1000), but the last time I checked
it costs $100, and you don't get all of the other standards included
in the Blue Book (obviously). The best is to have BOTH the Microcom
docs and V.42.
