[comp.dcom.modems] Telebit T1000 heat problem

meissner@osf.org (Michael Meissner) (06/28/90)

I have a Telebit T1000 as a home modem, and have the modem on the
second floor on an un air-conditioned house (:-<). The manual says
that the modem is rated to 120F which should be well above the house
temperture (which feels like 70-90 to me). Anyway, the modem does not
work during the day under these conditions.

Sometimes the modem ready light does not come on and usually turns
both the low and high speed lights on. Other times, it goes on hook,
and then goes off hook immediately. When it goes on/off hook, I can
then type commands to it and see the receive data light come on
briefly, but it never writes anything to the terminal.

At first I thought it was the modem, and switched it with another
T1000, and it started acting the same way. My work around is to move
the modem to the basement, but my wife is objecting to me putting the
terminal in the sewing room.....

Are there any other solutions (besides air conditioning the house).
