Hello, I have two questions concerning MNP : 1. Is it possible to use MNP on leased lines in addition to phone lines? 2. If MNP can be used on leased lines, then can it be used in conjunction with SDLC? Regards, Mohamed Zaki i\

asks:
- 1. Is it possible to use MNP on leased lines in addition to
- phone lines?
Yes.
- 2. If MNP can be used on leased lines, then can it be used in
- conjunction with SDLC?
No. Why would you want to? SDLC provides its own error control,
and the overhead of running one error-control protocol on top of
another would be awful. You might want to do this in order totake
advantage of data compression; the CCITT is currently studying the
issue of providing compression of synchronous data on top of V.42
LAPM using V.42bis techniques, but it will be a couple of years
before there is a standard for this.

If you add another protokol like SDLC, the data transfer will slow down (depending on hard/software). -- Snailmail: Mathias Niemz, Preussenallee 23, D-1000 Berlin 19, W-Germany E-Mail: GEO1: M.Niemz Bix: M.Niemz CompuServe: 76206,3341 Phone (Voice only !) +49 30-305 50 60 X25: (0262)44 3000 90345 (no uucp) This disclaimer has been canceled due to lack of interest
