A simple solution (if possible) for your phone problem is to wire your house phones such that the phone line first goes to your modem and then to the rest of the house phones. That way, if you want to make sure that you are not kicked off of the phone line, just unplug the phone cord that is going to the rest of the house and no one would be able to pick up when you are on the modem. -Steve Schallehn _____________________________________________________________________________ Steve Schallehn | Internet : STEVE @ KSUVM.KSU.EDU Kansas State University | UUCP : ..!rutgers!ksuvax1!ksuvm.ksu.edu!steve Manhattan, Kansas 66506 | Bitnet : STEVE @ KSUVM

Actually, it wouldn't even be necessary to unplug the cable if
you're using a Hayes modem (and many others have this feature, too):
they automatically disconnect the phone attached to the "Phone" jack
whenever the modem is off-hook, to keep you from inadvertently
disrupting a modem call by picking up. If you wired all of the
other phone through this, they would automatically be disconnected
whenever the modem was off hook.
