I'm new to the 56/64 Kbaud CSU/DSU market. I'm trying to find out if there is some way to add compression on top of a base 56 Kbaud Switch-56 connection like one can MNP or LAPM compression on top of a base 9600 baud V.32/V.42 modem to increase throughput on compressable data. I can see no reason why one couldn't run V.42 and V.42bis on top of
a digital link; it should work just fine. However, there is no
STANDARD for this. Therefore, I think you may be hard pressed to
find such a solution on the market today -- but might be able to
make a lot of money by designing and selling one!

This product provides up to a 4:1 increase in throughput. The Datamizer III adapts the size of the packets on the link increasing or decreasing packet size to improve network throughput efficiency. SYMPLEX has various processor models that operate over analog or digital facilities at speeds of 9.6, 19.2, 56 and 64 K as well as fractiona T1 rates up to 256Kbps.
