I have no knowledge at all of what's what in the area of Fax Modems, and please excuse if this is a common question. I know there are Fax modem boards that plug into a PC to which you can send an ASCII file and which will "print to Fax" at the other end. I'm curious to know if anyone makes a "smart" Fax modem (SFM) in the following sense. The SFM would be able to know based on some kind of handshake that the Fax at the other end was not just a Fax but another SFM. In this case, instead of sending a raster image of a printed version of the ASCII file, it would send to the other SFM *as a modem* the raw ASCII file, which the other SFM would store as a file. On the other hand, if the gadget on the other end of the line was an ordinary Fax it would send the rasterized image like any other Fax modem. If no one makes such a beast, well, anyone out there wanna make some money? :-) -- Jim Rosenberg #include <disclaimer.h> --cgh!amanue!oglvee!jr Oglevee Computer Systems / / 151 Oglevee Lane, Connellsville, PA 15425 pitt! ditka!
