I'd earlier reported problems using my vintage ('87) Zoom 2400 XL with ISC 386/ix 2.0.2 and UNIX 2.2. Despite a few net.suggestions, those problems persist. (To refresh memory, the problems involved dialup, especially at 2400 baud; it worked somewhat better with Xenix/386.) Well, now I find that Zoom is offering a trade-up to their current line with Sendfax thrown in. The modem claims full compatibility with the Hayes 2400 series (which mine didn't). The external version is uglier than sin, but the internal half-card - well, looks like a half-card! Questions: Does this latest card work well with ISC UNIX? Is Sendfax worth anything? Could I, for example, save a Word Perfect or WinWord print file (with fonts) and have it print correctly on a remote fax? Any strong recommendations for alternative FAX software? Is there anything about the current fax software that requires a particular modem, or could I use my modem of choice? Email responses preferred; post if so inclined.
