[comp.dcom.modems] getting RFSs

david@twg.com (David S. Herron) (08/27/90)

The canonical place to get RFC's is from NIC.DDN.MIL (formerly
SRI-NIC.ARPA). You login as anonymous, any password, "cd RFC:"
and proceed to `get' away. The RFC's are kept at various other
places around the network. I used to keep a big collection of
them on the anonymous ftp archive at f.ms.uky.edu, assumably it's
still there. I also know it's on uunet.uu.net.

You can also access them via mail by doing

	To: service@nic.ddn.mil
	Subject: RFC nnnn

Other Subject: lines are "help" (sends back a generic help doc),
and "<area> INDEX" to retrieve the index for an <area>. One of
which is the RFC area, so "RFC INDEX" will send back an index
of the RFC's.
