[comp.dcom.modems] ZOOM

I recently purchased a 2400 Zoom Telephonics Sendfax Modem. I have a Compaq Deskpro 8086 with a
serial printer attached. I detached the printer and attached a 25 pin male cable to the 25 pin
female port but I'm not able to get the modem to dial out. The modem comes with Procomm and I
tried dialing out with it but to no avail. I don't even get a dial tone and the modem lights just
remain in the ready mode. I then used Carbon Copy and I received an error message stating that no
COMM was detected or something of that sort. It suggests I check that the correct COM address is
set. It's not the jumpers (no dip switches) on the modem according to Zoom tech support.
Zoom tech support thinks it may be the modem or the cable (that it's not a modem cable).

Any ideas???

P.S. do I need to use the MODE command? I tried to use MODE COM command but it keeps giving me
the message: COM invalid command.
