[comp.dcom.modems] Help with Siemens SA820R Modem

greg@walt.cc.utexas.edu (Greg Harp) (09/16/90)

Can anyone help me with this modem? I have a couple of these and I would like
use them as standard 1200bps modems.

They have a LAL/NORM switch on the front -- My roommate says this is a
Local Access Line to Normal Access Line switch, but he doesn't know the
difference.

The labelling on these (apparently they were sold to the person who gave them
to me buy a computer surplus shop) claims they are 1200 baud.

Anyway, just plugging these into my computer or terminal doesn't produce much
more than a local echo, in the NORM mode only.

Are these things _real_ modems (real == consumer in this case) or industrial
types?

Any help would be appreciated...
