I have a friend who will be spending a year in Australia. We're considering keeping in touch by CompuServe mail. Can anyone give me info on modem usage "down under"? In particular, what kind of connections are used from the modem to the phone system (RJ-11, hard-wired, etc.), and whether it's doable (or legal) to bring in a "standard" modem such as a Hayes 1200 and use it. (I know the power is 220 or 240 volts, 50 Hz --right?) If it's not feasible to bring in a modem, what are approximate prices for "low-end" (1200/2400 baud) modems down there?
