I'm having some difficulty with FLASHlink, the MNP5 emulation program. When I try to dial up a number from the menu, soon after the other modem answers and before the two modems have had a chance to synchronize, FLASHlink complains "No dial tone detected" and aborts the connection. What's strange is that before this happens, while the number called is ringing, FLASHlink says "Waiting for an answer". I took the initialization string for the modem (Hayes-compatible) from the modems.txt file that comes with FLASHlink. This sets it up to obtain result codes (ATX4) so that if FLASHlink is indeed waiting for a dial tone, it should know when the dial tone is obtained. However, if I dial the number manually by typing ATDTxxx-xxxx when the modem is on-line, FLASHlink works and I get a CONNECT 2400/MNP5 message indicating that everything is fine. Any help would be appreciated. Another question: is there any way to use kermit to transfer files between the host (which runs Unix) and the PC on which I'm using FLASHlink? thanks, Shankar Subramanian ssubrama@keynes.ucsd.edu
