Greetings! Hayes announced last week of its intentions to support V.32bis. The best part for Ultra 96 owners is there WILL be an upgrade path. This text was obtained from the Hayes BBS at 1-800-US-HAYES under file V32BIS.TXT. Hope someone finds this informative. ------------------------------<include v32bis.txt>----------------------------- HAYES MICROCOMPUTER PRODUCTS, INC. P.O. Box 105203 Atlanta, Georgia 30348 404/449-8791 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sharon O'Brien/Peggy Ballard H-1990 HAYES ANNOUNCES CCITT V.32bis SUPPORT Atlanta, GA, 12 November 1990 -- Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc. today announced future support of CCITT V.32bis. The company also announced that it will offer an easy upgrade path for current ULTRA 96 owners requiring the new standard. CCITT V.32bis, which is an extension to the original CCITT V.32 standard adopted in 1984, was unanimously agreed to by CCITT Study Group XVII on 23 October 1990. The standard is expected to be formally adopted in February 1991. Hayes, an active member of and contributor to Study Group XVII, has participated in V.32bis discussions since they began in late 1988. In addition to supporting speeds of 9600 bps and 4800 bps, the new standard provides additional modem line speeds of 14,400 bps, 12,000 bps, and 7200 bps to that of the current CCITT V.32 standard. V.32bis offers backward compatibility with the V.32 standard by automatically negotiating a common modulation speed during the initial handshake. "V.32bis is on the horizon, and we will release our implementation when it meets our standards for performance, reliability and quality," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes. "The main issue of high speed communications is performance throughput and data integrity rather than whether the modem line speed is 9600 bps or 14,400 bps. We have taken the total system approach to high-end customer applications by providing a solution for high speed communications that includes ULTRA 96, Hayes ESP, and Smartcom software." Designed for use in over 30 countries, ULTRA 96 implements a combination of advanced features including V.42bis data compression for throughput speeds up to 38,400 bps, X.32 (Dial X.25) multiple session communications, and Hayes AutoSync. Hayes ESP is a dual-port communications co-processor for PCs which off-loads the system's responsibility of managing the high speed flow of data for external serial devices. When used with DOS communications software or multi-tasking operating system environments such as OS/2 and Windows, ULTRA 96 combined with Hayes ESP provides a complete systems solution for high speed communications with maximum data throughput and no data loss. ULTRA 96 and Hayes ESP are distributed through more than 15,000 dealers and value added resellers (VARs) worldwide. All registered users of ULTRA 96 will automatically receive notice of the upgrade availability. Best known as the leader in microcomputer modems, Hayes develops, supplies and supports computer communications equipment and software for personal computer and computer communications networks. The company distributes its products through an international network of authorized distributors, dealers, and original equipment manufacturers. ### --------------------------------<end v32bis.txt>------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USnail: Clifford K.
