[comp.dcom.modems] Telebit <==> Everex Connectionm problem

kianusch@ghost.UUCP (Kianusch Sayah-Karadji) (12/14/90)

Hi,
I'm running a TELEBIT 2500, on my site, workes great...

The only problem is that I have a hard time to get a
Everex to dial up to my machine at 2400 (or 1200) baud.

The only speed they can communicate with each other is 300 baud.

It works fine when my modem calls the everex - but other way round
	I can't.

And also it wokes fine when another non Everex brand calles
the Telebit at 2400 baud, so the problem seems not to be the
Telebit, but the everex side of the connections.

						Any ideas

						Thanx

There is a problem with Telebit and Everex 2400 modems connecting in V.22bis
(2400) mode. Everex has a firmware upgrade to this problem for their
modem. If you call Telebit Tech Support, they might have the code info
you need, in regards to the Everex modem. I lost the info I had on
this subject. Good Luck!

This is a common problem with the "cheaper" 2400bps modems. The calling
modem hears the V.32 answer tones, mistakes them for V.22bis answer tones
(2400bps), tries to establish a connection, and then fails. The solution
is to add several commas (I've found that 5-6 work well for local calls,
but you'll have to experiment) after the phone number, to force the modem
to wait out the V.32 tones and respond to the V.22bis tones.
