[comp.dcom.modems] cheap 2400 baud external modems

gs26@prism.gatech.EDU (Glenn R. Stone) (12/19/90)

I've got quotes on a few cheap 2400 baud external modems
(to be used with an AT-class machine); I would like comments
as to what problems (if any) people have had with:

   Patriot
   BSM Quikkom
   CPI
   Digitan
   Everex
   Evercom

(all 2400 external non-MNP)... I'm not interested in lots of
bells and whistles, just something that works and doesn't break.

Posting is probably a preferred method, since Inquiring Minds
will Want To Know anyway....

Same thing (Evercom is an Everex brand name). My Evercom 940 (short card
PC-internal 2400) has been completely reliable: no hiccups in almost four
years. My Hayes 2400 external was well on its way to knocking the Everex off
for overall quality and reliability until it developed a temporary line relay
problem yesterday...
