[comp.dcom.modems] Failure to make connections

evanc@isishq.fidonet.org (Evan Champion) (12/26/90)

My modem has real problems connecting to modems which do reverse-carrier
checks, such as a local USR HST 9600. It is a GVC SUPER MODEM 2400. Here
is the current setup:

ACTIVE PROFILE:

B1 E1 L1 M1 Q0 V1 X3 Y0 &C1 &D2 &G0 &J0 &L0 &P0 &R0 &S1 &X0 &Y0

S00:000 S01:000 S02:043 S03:013 S04:010 S05:008 S06:002 S07:045

S08:002 S09:035 S10:040 S12:050 S14:CAH S16:00H S18:000 S21:70H

S22:65H S23:1FH S25:005 S26:001 S27:40H

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

(oh one thing, please don't reply EMAIL. Everytime I receive mail it gets
screwed up or something, so I never get to reply. I'll have a chat with the
SysOp)

Some older 2400 bps modems have this trouble, which is related to
(whatever). A workaround is a string of 6 to 9 commas after the number,
so the modem waits before it sets up.

ATDT 123-4567,,,,,, >return<

I have to do this with my Mitac 2400BD and it works. The number of commas
is subject to trial and error, but it lets you connect.

I understand that some modem builders came out with new firmware to fix
this, so you might try calling Supra (Mitac doesn't know there's a problem
yet).

Part of the answer could also lie in the way the other end has their modem
set up. The length of the V32 negotiation (S18 for HSTs) can make a
difference. However, we can't usually control that, can we?

Ok... I'll try the ","'s. I'll see if I can get a firmware fix. Thanks.
