Several things to check. See which exchanges callers get line noise from. Take down the first 3 digits of there phone number, if they get line noise put them in one colum, if they don't put them in another. One of two things will happen. You with either see a pattern or everyone is bad. If there is a pattern call the local phone company and see if those exchanges are older/ on differnt equiptment than the ones that work. If so thats it. If all you callers have problems try having them call at 1200 on the 2400 modem. If the noise goes away it's a modem thats out of spec at 2400 (very common in cheeper modems). If thats it I would recomend a USRobotics modem. Finally if you still have line noise go to your phone box and disconnect every- thing but them modem with a direct line going to it. If you still have problems it's most likely between your house and the pole, have the phone company come check it/replace it (may take several trips) and then you should be ok. Just another day in the life........
