I would like to buy a modem for my Macintosh. I have seen ads for the ZOOM MX2400 modem. Has anyone used one of these? How do they perform? Any comments would be appreciated. maryann berg (mab@iapic.cvm.uiuc.edu)

I've used it for about 5 hours and have had no transmission or reception errors. I haven't used it on any known bad lines, though. I was averaging about 230 cps -- I'd attribute the less than perfect efficiency to software. The modem claims 100% Hayes compatibility :-). The S registers are documented, but I haven't used a genuine Hayes 2400 for comparison. The documentation doesn't describe the RS-232C pinouts, but otherwise it is complete and well written. Does anyone have a Zoom modem? The company is offering it for $129 on special offer. Can anyone tell me about it? Is it worth it? Any problems with it? Please send replies by email. It works fine and I have no complaints. Test faxes that I have sent came out very clear. I would be nice to have the receive fax capabilities as well though.
