I'm having a problem using password security (S46=3) on my T2500 (GF7.00-T2500SA). The modem's configured for dialing in and out on the same line, and it works just fine. However, when I turn on password security, I never get through to getty when dialing in. I get the "Enter Password:" prompt from the modem, and if I enter an incorrect password, it hangs up immediately, as expected. But when I enter a correct password, the connection just hangs, without even echoing the Carriage Return I hit after typing the password. The getty on the computer isn't waking up (according to ps). The computer is a Sun 3/160 running 4.1. Software DCD has been disabled on the tty, and getty (and UUCP) are set to use RTS/CTS flow control. The modem configuration is as follows (all other registers are at ECM default values): 41=1 Hang up if no data exchanged for 6 minutes 51=252 Automatically detect DTE speed (usually 19200) 52=2 Hang up and reset when DTR dropped 54=3 Pass BREAK through the modem 55=3 Pass +++ through the modem 58=2 Use RTS/CTS flow control 64=1 Don't abort a call if DTE sends characters during dial 66=1 Lock interface speed during V32 or slow connections 92=1 Send PEP tones last during answer sequence 111=30 Do UUCP spoofing when in PEP mode 131=1 Raise DCD on carrier detect. Q9 No result codes for remote, or when answering E0 Do not echo commands (or getty goes nuts) Any hints and tips are appreciated. I haven't spoken to Telebit about the problem yet. I actually have two T2500's, and they both exhibit the same behavior. -- David Myers (513) 865-1343 Mead Data Central Friends don't Interactive Systems P.O. I have a T1600, not a T2500, but I ran into a similar problem. I called up Telebit tech support (1-800-TELEBIT) and this is what they told me. This information may or may not help you. - First, figure out whether you're using "pass-through" security (you're not in this case apparently) or "call-back" security. - There is a "set password" command (~U on a T1600). This command sets a security password for administrative purposes ONLY-- it's used when you try to CHANGE other passwords. It is NOT the same password that you type when you call in. - When you select pass-through security, the modem will accept ANY of the passwords entered for the callback numbers. You don't necessarily have to have a callback number associated with the password, but you have to have at least one password in the "N" list. When you select call-back security, the password that you type determines which number is called back. Each number in the "N" list should have a different password associated with it. The password is separated from the number by enclosing the password in backslashes (e.g. \PASSWORD\). - Do not have both modems set to use call-back security; change the calling modem to non-secure mode first. Otherwise, you may get into a call-back loop. I haven't tried this for myself yet, but this information should provide at least a few hints. Hope it helps...
