[comp.dcom.modems] Line Noise Redux Redux

luce@aurs01.UUCP (J. Luce) (01/30/91)

I want to thank everyone who gave me info to fight this battle with the
local telco. Armed with the info, I was able to get to Senior Supervisor
levels and actually had a 3 man task force put on this. The line is very
good now, but still has an intermittent problem.

The transmission people got involved with the SLIC96 personnel. It was
ascertained that the outbound channels were taking a 'hit' from the
SLIC. It appears that they had several vendors' hardware in there and
they didn't like each other. When the unit was finally pieced together
from 'cooperative' parts, it was much better, but not real good. Next,
they found a clock that was slipping causing the 'popping popcorn' noise
that existed (I didn't know it was there since my modem didn't tell me
:) ). We also had a slight high frequency roll-off that has been
corrected. The Transmission guy says that there is still a slight hit
taking place so he's not done yet.

Anyway, it just proves that once you get past the beaurocrats, the tech.
people are interested in getting it right.

Again, thanks to everyone for their help. A real good group here.
