Thus spake news@m2xenix.psg.com (Randy Bush): > IMAO and experience: > > At 1200 nothing came close to a Hayes. ... They were a truely great > modem. Or, for a really good V.22 modem (the proper way to do 1200, none of this nasty Bell stuff :-)) get a Racal 1222. Their only problem is that they don't dial, but they can even ride out lightening strikes close enough to fry the exchange! True -- it happened to me about six months ago. > [V.32] get an Intel. ... they support the hell out of it Like they support the hell out of their shrinkwrap Unix V.4, ACE, ICC and HUB multi-port cards, Blit and Instant-Workstation cards? Intel do chips, and make lousy systems and peripherals suppliers (IMEMAO). They seem to be fast becoming the Microsoft of the hardware market, which is not surprising, given their close links with IBM. > For uucp, get a Telebit. I couldn't agree with you more. The T2500 does do V.32 aswell, but not terribly well (they use Rockwell chips, I think :-(). PEP beats them all, though (if you use batched uucp with spoofing). > I have a well-deserved reputation as a crusty and picky @hole. Lies, all lies. Some of us are far, far bigger @holes :-). ---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=--- Paul Nash Flagship Wide Area Networks (Pty) Ltd paul@frcs.UUCP ...!uunet!ddsw1!proxima!frcs!paul
