USR v.32bis Dual Standard report:

Well, I finally got two of them and did some ZMODEM transferring...

With TEXT:	2975 cps in v.32bis mode for a 500k file.
With an uncompressed EXE file:	1763 cps for 220k

And then the bad news... one of the v.32bis Duals developed a problem with
the circuit that detects RING signals -- it started giving a false ring
intermittently when the modem went on-hook (my terminal software doesn't like
data coming in during a pause in the autodialing process, effectively making
the modem useless for autodialing).

I called USR yesterday and they had me reload the factory config, then set
the unit up from scratch again. The false RING still appeared. They said
they'd like to "take a look at it" so off it went yesterday afternoon with
the UPS man. USR said there was about a four day turnaround (not too bad)
and they'd get her back to me good as new.

Other than the RING problem (which I assume has to be some kind of simple
component failure -- modem thinks the surge of voltage after disconnecting
is really a ring) the v.32bis Dual Standard seems a stable unit. I've had
virtually no problems with carrier loss or interrupted transfers. Most of
my calls are LD from Texas to California and I use AT&T. (Reach out America
-- not a bad deal for $6.70 per hour).

I'll be happy to answer any specific questions about these beasts (to the best
of my ability) and I'll sumarize for you guys.
