There has been a fair amount of discussion here in recent months about the Intel 9600EX V.32 modem. Several people have wondered about its compatibility at 2400 speed, etc. My Intel 9600EX arrived around the middle of Jan and I have used it ever since on my PC BBS. Here are some summary statistics of the calls so far into this 9600EX: average calls per day: 55 total utilization: 38% (of 7 days/week 24 hrs/day) call breakdown by connect speed: 2400 70% 1200 12% 2400E 10% (ie. MNP connection) 9600E 5% (ie. MNP/LAPM connection) other 3% (ie. 1200E, 9600 non REL, and 300) I only know of three callers who are having connect problems with their 2400 speed modems. The modems involved are a Multitech, an Anchor, and my five year old USR Courier 2400. USR is sending me a new ROM to fix this problem. Since most of my calls are 2400 speed and my BBS is as busy as ever, I would conclude that the 9600EX is not having any significant connect problems. Most of my callers are local. I have a few long distance V.32 callers and a number of long distance 2400 speed callers. So far none of them has complained about any connect problems. I think I have received one LD call from Europe. I call out long distance to Hayes Ultra's and USR Dual/Std's with little trouble. Occasionally I'll connect to a Dual/Std at 2400/MNP instead of at 9600/LAPM for some reason (line quality?, HST connect preferred over V.32?).
