[comp.dcom.modems] Intel 9600ex, LAPM connection problem

jim@shograf.COM (jim morris) (02/22/91)

I have recently discovered (and confirmed by Intel tech support)
that the 9600EX violates the v.42 spec for LAPM connections.
The result is that the 9600EX originating to a Telebit
T1600 will not connect in LAPM mode.
(However the T1600 -> 9600EX works fine).

Anyway Intel told me they are fixing it and will release new ROMS
very soon now.

BTW the violation doesn't affect connections to modems using the
most commonly used chip set (Rockwell). So it does connect ok with
with Telebit T2500, Hayes, Us robotics etc.

Other than this "minor" glitch I think the 9600EX is well worth the $500.
its small and reliable.

(I also think the T1600 is very good, actually better because it is
more configurable and has security callback).

FYI
