[comp.dcom.modems] Courier HST v.42BIS garbage problems

jeffo@mrcnext.uiuc.edu (Jeffrey B Nicholson) (02/28/91)

I'm having problems after connecting using a "CONNECT
9600/ARQ/HST/HST/V42BIS" connection. My problem is that after about 20
minutes of using IRC (sorry, this is the only kind of data flow
representation I can give) [IRC is a chat program] I get pure garbage.

It will happen with anything, not just IRC and it'll happen on any
computer, so that ruled out the possibility of the chat program software
I was running being broken.

The kind of garbage I get is a lot of, well, garbage very little of which
vaguely resembles what should be there. My NRAM settings are:

USRobotics Courier 14400 HST NRAM Settings...

   DIAL=TONE   B1  F1  M0  X6
   BAUD=19200  PARITY=N  WORDLEN=8

   &A3  &B2  &G0  &H1  &I0  &J0  &K1  &L0
   &M4  &N0  &P0  &R2  &S0  &X0  &Y3

   S02=043   S03=013   S04=010   S05=008
   S06=002   S07=060   S08=002   S09=006
   S10=007   S11=070   S12=050   S13=000
   S15=128   S19=000   S21=010   S22=017
   S23=019   S24=150   S26=001   S27=001
   S28=000   S38=000

and my current modem settings are:

USRobotics Courier 14400 HST Settings...

   B1  C1  E1  F1  M0  Q0  V1  X6
   BAUD=19200  PARITY=N  WORDLEN=8
   DIAL=HUNT   OFF HOOK   TIMER

   &A3  &B2  &C1  &D0  &G0  &H1  &I0  &J0  &K1
   &L0  &M4  &N0  &P0  &R2  &S0  &X0  &Y3

   S00=000   S01=000   S02=043   S03=013
   S04=010   S05=008   S06=002   S07=032
   S08=002   S09=006   S10=007   S11=070
   S12=050   S13=000   S14=000   S15=128
   S16=000   S17=001   S18=000   S19=000
   S20=000   S21=010   S22=017   S23=019
   S24=150   S25=000   S26=001   S27=000
   S28=000   S38=000

All I can say is that I can't seem to use a v.42BIS connection at 19,200
baud for more than around 20 minutes. Is this a known problem? USR
installed my v.42BIS chips when they came out.

Thanks.

Jeff
