[comp.dcom.modems] MT932EC -> V42bis question

bruce@camb.com (Barton F. Bruce) (03/13/91)

I just had Multitech upgrade an MT932EC to include V.42bis.

They stuck in a newer UART, but it is NOT a National NS16550AFN.

it says:

73M550-IP
SA9030
16553.1.1W

Made by a circled j where instead of the dot on top, there is a little curved
crook to the right.

Is this as good? Any good at all? Or is Multitech to be flamed for not
using 'THE' chip? I can just change it, but 1) only want to if necessary, 2)
have more boards to go back and need to know what to say to Multitech.

FWIW the ECO is not just a new prom and uart. The 2 old proms are replaced
by a plugin daughter mini board with 2 soldered in big chips and a plugged in
27c512. There also seems to be a healthy collection of new wires making other
changes.
