[comp.dcom.modems] Who's offering sysop modem prices?

4225_5205@uwovax.uwo.ca (03/20/91)

I'm investigating various "SYSOP MODEM DEALS" around.

So far I've found INTEL, GVC, US ROBOTICS (NATURLICH!),
COMPUCOM SPEEDMODEM, SHARP.

The best sysop pricing on a V.32 (US$) seems to be GVC at $379.
They say List is $699 on the modem, and the best mail order
price I found was $499 in ComputerShopper.

The HSTs (for just a plain Usr HST 14.4k/external) are $449 (mail order 549,
list 995) in the latest
memo I saw, although I heard USR dropped prices... Has anyone heard anything?

I'm also aware of Hayes (Ultra 96 for 50% [$600]), Practical
Peripherals, and Intel.

I called USR's BBS a few days ago to check out the new prices. They are
pretty good. The Dual Standard HST is down to $499 (from $699) and the
HST 14.4 is $399. I can't remember what the V.32 was, but it was it that
range. With the DS at $499, I might just be putting in an order here soon.

Related question: Now that V.32bis has been approved, does anyone know
if USR's current implementation complies with the new standard?
