Well, I don't know who you (J. Luce) talked to, but I just got off the phone
from a very disturbing talk with practical peripherals tech-support.

Yesterday I called to ask about status of V.32bis and had the following
conversation (approximately):

Me: What is the status of you guys doing V.32bis?

Him: Well, we are waiting for it to be implemented.

Me: You mean you are waiting for the chip-set to be finished?

Him: No, we are aiting for CCITT to approve the standard.

Me (In pain): Well, it's my understanding that the standard was approved
              on March 8th.

Him: Well, let me check on that and get back to you tomorrow.

So, this afternoon I get get a call and the guy says that they are planning
a V.32bis release for this FALL!!

I asked him why it would take so long, since many other vendors already have
tentative implementations on the market.

He said something like "Well, the people who are implementing it are holding
on to it for themselves... Anyone who wnats to sell one will have to implement
it themselves."

I am not sure what he means, unless he is saying that there is not going
to be a Rockwell chip-set for V.32bis, which I would find quite strange.

I registered my extreme displeasure, saying that when I decided to buy
the 9600SA it was based partly on conversations with tech in which they
strongly implied that a V.32bis upgrade would be available (inexpensively)
within a month or two of CCITT approval. I also said that it seemed that
they were really shooting themselves in the foot by giving it such low priority
(he mentioned that they had other more important projects to work on right
now) since many people were bypassing V.32 to buy V.32bis modems.

So, that's my news. If anyone has anything to add, or can authoritatively
tell me that this guy was wrong, I would LOVE to hear it, since I have
2 9600SA's.

Josh

PS: Also, I would reccomend that all of you with 9600SA's call PP and
register your dissatisfaction with this policy. Maybe if we can get enough
calls in, and make it clear that we will not reccommend the modem to friends
and clients until this is resolved, we can get a shift in policy.
