In May or June last year I purchased a Falcon 2400 bps modem from a local supplier, noting that it was manufactured in the US, and complied with all required standards. For a few months (certainly longer than the 3 month warranty) it worked just fine. More recently it has been exceedingly tempermental. Once in every 9 or 10 attempts the DTR light will come up when my PC asserts DTR. Using the modem doctor software (shareware) that a friend lent me I discovered that the problem has to be the modem, and that perhaps the main microprocessor has bit the dust. I have noticed that all of the silicon inside is manufactured in Taiwan :-{ What I'd like to know --- * Has anyone else out there got such a modem? * Have you had any difficulty with it? * And is there an easy fix? I don't read this newsgroup, so could you please e-mail in reply. Please also note that as I live in Wellington, New Zealand, calling and asking the manufacturers is impractical, as well as unlikely to be of any help. Any assistance would be much appreciated... _ || martin@comp.vuw.ac.nz ' )--,--, _/_ || Victoria University / / / __ __ / . _ || Wellington, New Zealand / / (_(_/|_/ (_(_(_/ ) || -- _ || martin@comp.vuw.ac.nz ' )--,--, _/_ || Victoria University / / / __ __ / . _ || Wellington, New Zealand / / (_(_/|_/ (_(_(_/ ) || martin@actrix.co.nz

Can any reader please help me... I have a Falcon (proudly made in the US) 2400 modem which I purchase 10 months or so ago. 3 month warranty expired, and the shop I purchased from is just an importer. Of late it's been giving me some trouble: * On the rare occasions that DTR assertion actually brings on the Terminal Ready light on the modem these days, it only performs correctly for a short period of time (say 5 minutes). * Most of the time, the DTR light on the modem just stays off. A hard reset of the modem (and my PC) doesn't help. * I managed to get the modem doctor software from a friend, which told me that everything was fine except my modem. * I have used 3 different cables, which all used to work just fine, now none do. I have noticed that all the silion is actually made in Aisa (Taiwan I think :-{ ) So - can anybody say they've had exerience with this brand of modem, and can anybody help me? I don't read this newsgroup, so perhaps you could e-mail me if you can help?
