[comp.dcom.modems] Modem magazines.

storm@cs.mcgill.ca (Marc WANDSCHNEIDER) (04/09/91)

Are there any magazines out there devoted to modems and if there are, could
somebody please send me the subscription address of above mentioned.

I have looked around a few computer stores around town, but the most intel-
ligent answer I get is (duh? Whuts a modemm?) "read PC Mag"...

Thanks

There's a magazine called LinkUp that devotes considerable attention to
modems and related technology, though not on a super-complex level.

Hmmm, is this for suckers, er, subscribers of Compu$erve, QuantumLink,
etc., or is this a journal of sorts?

One magazine that regularly covers modems, among many other things, is

    Data Communications
    McGraw-Hill Inc.
    1221 Avenue of the Americas
    New York, NY 10020

Most readers of this periodical are assumed to have jobs dealing with
complex voice and data telecommunication, but even professionals of
that stripe seem to like articles comparing Zmodem transfers over
async dial-up-type modems. Look at a few back issues in a library and
see if it helps you.

I've seen some magazines with broader coverage of consumer datacom
concerns, such as \OnLine/, but as a former editor of BYTE, (yes, owned
by McGraw-Hill), I can give the professional opinion that sustaining
publication of a consumer-oriented newsstand-and-mail-subscription
magazine that has articles \only/ about modems would be a difficult
business venture.
