Help!

I just acquired a Hayes Smartmodem 1200 and I am having some trouble
with it. Here are the symptoms.

       1. 5 LEDs are always on, they are: HS, AA, CD, TR, MR.
       2. typing 'at' does not get modem's attention. The
              SD LED flickers.

Turning the modem on and off does not affect the symptoms.
I took the modem apart and there are no apparant damage to the modem.
I do see a set of dip switches and am wondering if someone has changed
the settings.

Any help regarding the dip switch settings or any hints on the possible
troubles/solutions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Here are the switch settings that work best with a Macintosh. They should be
fine for other computers' software that does not rely on the DTR pin.

Hayes Smartmodem 1200 does not support AT&W. Need to configure via dip switches:
1 - down
2 - up
3 - down
4 - up
5 - down
6 - down
7 - up
8 - down
9 - doesn't matter
10 - doesn't matter

Remember to type AT commands in capital letters--these modems only recognize
commands with uppercase letters.
