I have a couple questions for you PM9600SA (Practical Periperals) owners: What is the maximum length of a dialing string (maybe "length of a modem command" would be more accurate?). I have a PP MicroChannel 2400bps modem and my major complaint is that this length is too short. I find this limitation when I wish to have it dial my calling card's WATS line+desired number+access code. If I recall correctly, it responds "ERROR". My Hayes VS-9600 can do this properly. If I didn't *have* to use the calling card's WATS line (I'm in a PBX), the PP can handle a 'local' access number+desired number+access code. Secondly, does the PM9600SA support the NVRAM saving of the S11 register. For example, "ATS11=50&W"? Once again, my PP MicroChannel 2400bps modem does not. Other than that, the PP is a really fine modem. The price of the PM9600SA is really tempting ($459 from Elek-Tek). Something of interest that I found on the Hayes BBS today is the following: >Effective 1 May 1991, the new estimated retail prices for ULTRA 96 are >US$999 and CN$1399, reduced from US$1199 and CN$1699, and for V-series >Smartmodem 9600 are US$799 and CN$1099, reduced from US$999 and CN$1399. The Elek-Tek price on the Hayes Ultra 9600 a couple days ago was $769, so does this mean a potential $569 price? I can only hope!! Thomas Boehler
