Does anyone know the different companies that offer SYSOP deals? Thanks!! HH

Here are three manufacturers who I know have sysop promo prices for some of their modems: Hayes............ 800-635-1225 US Robotics...... 800-DIAL-USR Intel............ 800-538-3373 Some other manufacturers who's phone numbers I don't have are: Practical Peripherals CompuCom Sharp Just call 800 information (800-555-1212) and ask for these numbers. Typically the sysop promo price is around half-off the list price. You have to sign an application agreement saying, among other things, that you won't resell the modem. Not all applicants qualify.

Any >chance of posting regular numbers? Intel can be reached at ++ (503) 629-7000 voice, or you may send them a fax to ++ (503) 629-7580. The sysop price for their 9600EX modem (V.32, V.42/V.42bis, MNP 4/5) is set to US$399. Each sysop can order up to 2 modems. The complete sysop offer is posted on the Intel BBS at ++ (503) 645-6275. The BBS is V.32 capable, and does not have an 800 number for US/Canada. -- Mehdi -- -- ..!uunet!m2xenix!armon!mehdi mehdi@armon.rain.com (Mehdi Attaran)

Each sysop can order up to 2 modems. Though this is not specifically aimed at sysops, for those folks who can get by with V.42bis or MNP5, and can live with 9600 baud achieved by compression on a 2400 baud device, Zoom Telephonics, in Boston, has a V.42bis modem which lists for $199, but which is on sale at Egghead Discount Software for $169. I have been playing with three of these for a few months, and have found them to be quite satisfactory. One of the people in my lab has run SLIP between two of these. At this price, 2400 baud looks even more unbearable. The address for Zoom Telephonics is: Zoom Telephonics 207 South Street Boston, MA (617)423-1072 Ken Cleary, HGL sysadmin, ken@nucleus.harvard.edu
