[comp.dcom.modems] modems designed for noisy channels

bryan@marlin.NOSC.MIL (Dale Bryan) (05/07/91)

does anyone have info on modems of speeds 2400 and 4800 bps
designed for noisy channels where standard V.26/V.27 formats
can't do the job?

Try the Telebit Trailblazer. It splits the channel up into 512 slices, and
avoids the frequencies where noise is a problem. There are a couple of ways
a TB can die... poor echo cancellers hurt it badly... but most noisy lines
just cause a slight (in 100 BPS decrements) speed degradation without producing
detectable "line noise".
