We are using Multitech 932EAB modems to remote program and control a research radar here at the lab. Randomly these modems will disconnect from each other and can take up to 4-5 hours for them to reset so that they are not busied out. Sometimes a power off/on cycle has to be done at the remote end to reset it. They are both fixed at 9600 for the port speed, and yes, the remote one is 'out in the country'. I called and talked to Multitech and they shipped out an updated chip set for the modems (vers 401) and that seemed to help a little but we are still having problems. Anyone with ideas? It CAN cause hang-up problems.
