Hello world, I have been tasked by my boss to write a paper on modem standards. Does anyone out there have a summary of all the CCITT "V" standards. And what does the "bis" stand for in V.42bis. I need a summary of all the "V" standards, V.19, V.29, V.22, V.32, V.33, V.35, V.42, V.45 V.49. I need some plain English stuff that you would read to your mother. Which speeds do each standard apply to and some words on what each standard is useful for. Desperately Douglas Phillipson

HELP! Does someone have a complete list of "V" standards as they apply to modems? Just a summary of the standards from 300 baud to 19200 baud will do. And what does the "bis" stand for. What is the difference between: V.22 and V.22bis Thanks in advance Desperately Douglas Phillipson

Here are the modem-level CCITT V numbers that I know: V.22 1200/600 bps FDX V.23 1200/600 bps HDX V.26 2400 bps 4W V.26 bis 2400/1200 bps HDX V.26 ter 2400/1200 bps FDX V.27 4800 bps 4W V.27 bis 4800/2400 bps 4W V.27 ter 4800/2400 bps FDX V.29 9600 bps 4W V.32 9600/4800 bps FDX V.33 14.4 kbps V.35 48 kbps 4W V.36 48 kbps 4W V.37 72 kbps 4W These were taken from a wall chart showing a great many X., V., and other standards mapped against the 7 ISO layers; the chart shows the rather tangled interrelated nature of the standards. It is from: Retix 2644 30th St Santa Monica, CA 90405-3009 (213)399-2200 Also check your local University technical library; I am fortunate in being close to Stanford, which has most of the CCITT standards. If all else fails you can go direct to the sources: International Organization for Standardization and International Telecommunications Union both in Geneva, Switzerland. Unfortunately this takes time and the books are quite expensive. Dave C

Hello world. I am in need of the CCITT "V." modem standards documents. I have been informed by a company by the name of Global Engineering that these documents are not available yet. How do modem manufacturers get these documents or atleast partial ones. Are there any modem manufacturers out there that can send me these documents? I have been placed on a government comittee to recomend modem standards for nation wide Emergency Operation Centers. We are also creating lists of preferred hardware. If any modem manufacturers out there are reading this please send me a list of your modems and technical specs if you would like to be considered for this list. Send info to: Douglas Phillipson EG&G Energy Measurements P.O. Box 1912 M/S C-100 Las Vegas NV, 89125 PS I would appreciate a copy of the CCITT standards that exist currently. DSP
