[comp.dcom.modems] Prometheus Ultima

pclark@SRC.Honeywell.COM (Peter Clark) (05/21/91)

Does anyone have any experience with the Prometheus Ultima modem? It's a
v.32bis v.42bis MNP5 modem/fax, for $699 from Maya computer. I'd be especially
interested in:

a) people using it for a UUCP connection
b) people using it to fax from a NeXT

but any comments about the modem (or other prometheus modems) would be
appreciated. If anyone has a better suggestion for a v32.bis faxmodem, let me
know! (better yet, lean on Telebit to put fax into the T1600/T2500)

	Thanks,

Prometheus told me a few months ago that they are working on adding
EIA TR29.2 Class II Facsimile Digital Interface command set support
for the Ultima, and that it ("Class II" support in the Ultima modem)
will be available this summer.

NeXTConnection is aware of this intent of Prometheus and plans to test
the revised Ultima with NeXT FAX software. Yay, this sounds good.
MacConnection sells the current Prometheus Ultima for around $750,
I think.
